Magical thinking is the human default.

The primary evolutionary imperative is to survive and reproduce in an indifferent, but dangerous, world. As such, evolution only cares about logic or reason or Truth or Beauty or Goodness in so far as it serves the survival and reproduction of the basic reproductive unit, which is the gene (Note: For the purpose of this article it is adequate (but inaccurate) to consider the individual as the reproductive unit.)
