It is an evolutionary certainty that the current ICE protestors are NOT acting out of feelings of love for total strangers. That is not a priority for evolution by natural selection. It is much, much more likely that they are instead acting out of anger, hatred, or some form of self-aggrandizement. This should be obvious to anyone who knows anything at all about human nature, or human history, or has look honestly and deeply into their own psychic and seen their shadow. But very few people take the time and effort, or have the personal courage, to acquire this knowledge. They prefer crude displays of performance art
Love of total strangers in not now, nor has it ever been, a strong enough emotion to motivate costly sacrifice. Anger, hatred, and self-aggrandizement, on the other hand, are more that powerful enough to motivate extreme behaviors at almost any cost.
Pure altruism does not
exist in any living organism. The principles of evolution, in particular the
primacy of reproductive success, forbid it. Reciprocal altruism does exist and
is practiced among kin and in-group members during times of plenty, but pure
altruistic behavior directed toward total strangers is totally maladaptive and
any genes that promote this behavior will be quickly (on an evolutionary time
scale) removed from the gene pool.
Think about this the next time you see
those “loving” ICE protestors.
